In Bloom: Pink Maryland

Maryland

Spring is here, and my weekend trip to Baltimore was a feast of pink against a blue, blue sky.

Cafe Hon — site of the annual Honfest, a celebration of local Hampden area working class “hon” culture and its associated beehive hairdos and cat’s-eye glasses . Note the John Waters reference in the giant pink flamingo outside. Waters has actually stopped using the term, himself, saying that it has become condescending: “The people that celebrate it are not from it. I feel that in some weird way they’re looking slightly down on it. I only celebrate something I can look up to.”
